EFSA Focal Point
The free movement of goods within the European Union (EU) allows for a wide range of food products to be available. To strengthen food safety across Europe, cooperation between the EU Member States and the EU institutions is essential. By pooling the knowledge of national and European Food Safety Authorities about possible risks in the food chain, consumer protection is enhanced.
The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), as the national contact point (EFSA Focal Point), coordinates the exchange of scientific information between the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the authorities responsible for food and feed safety in Germany as well as stakeholders from the fields of industry, politics, science and consumer associations.
Oursafefood.de, the information platform of the German EFSA Focal Point, provides information on food and feed safety issues in Europe. It also provides an overview of the most important tasks of EFSA and the EFSA Focal Points.
More detailed information on the German EFSA Focal Point can be found on the BfR website.
